Norridge (60706 zip code), an “Island Within a City” as it is sometimes called, is a small (1.81 sq. miles) 14K residents’ village, completely surrounded (along with Harwood Heights) by the City of Chicago neighborhoods. There was an attempt to annex it to Chicago in 1948, but it was incorporated as a village instead.

Norridge IL – EDMAR Corporation Masonry Tuckpointing Service AreaThe history of Norridge goes back to 1830’s when first local farmers built their cabins here. In its early stages there were periods when it was called “Goat Village” and “Swamp”, its current name was suggested by one of the local residents and derived from the names of nearby NORwood Park & Park RIDGE.

The area’s growth begun in the early 1950’s with installation of a waterworks system, pouring of concrete sidewalks, asphalt streets, as well as installation of a sewer system.

Its financial situation improved once the Harlem Irving Plaza was developed, bringing money to the village, and positively impacting Norridge residents by lowering their property taxes.

The local population is mostly Polish and Italian, occupying bungalows and ranch style homes.
